I'm looking to get close to that traditional Fender P sound, good for Jazz, Rock, Country, that kinda thing. What are my best options here? I would also replace volume, tone, and the jack, so basically, swap out the original electronics for new. It may be fine, but if I did decide to "upgrade", any recommendations on the best options to replace it?
#MUSICMASTER BASS TUNERS HOW TO#
So, here are a bunch of questions that I have about how to bring this beauty up to delivering a better sound as well as making some repairs/modifications to improve the overall hardware. I think this bass has the original pup which was apparently a Stratocaster pickup. I'd love to gig with this thing, but like others have observed, the sound leaves a lot to be desired. I've read a bunch of threads on this forum about the Musicmaster and I agree with what a number of folks are saying, it is a sweet playing Short Scale. I'm not even sure what year it is, so my first question is, based on the serial number: 394052, does anyone know what I actually have here? What makes it somewhat unique is that it is fretless! I'm pretty sure this was a modification, but I'm not 100% on that.
From the research I've done so far, it is far from "original". I'm hoping I can draw on the expertise in this forum to help with a rebuild of a Fender Musicmaster.
I used to be up on technical specs but that's a long time ago now, so I'd really appreciate as much detail included in your answers as I'm afraid I'm not to current on most things! It took me a few minutes to figure out what a PUP was. I've been playing for a few years now, I bought my first P brand new in 1975. My first Post! Hopefully this isn't too lengthy, but I have a lot of questions.
